My romance with Cinque Terra started months before we arrived, when we booked a Villa in Riomaggiore.
I saw pictures of the villa on-line and as I scrolled through them I fell more and more in love. This was to be my sanctuary, the time that I was to spend on a lounge looking at the beautiful sight before me, so this was a very important decision.
It was a simple process to book and pay for the villa. Pamela was extremely helpful and sent us paperwork on different sights to enjoy during our stay. I was becoming more and more excited and eagerly went through them and looked at all the pictures I could regarding the different places we would be able to go.
Stepping off of the train I couldn’t wait to see the villa. Roberto was there waiting for us just like we were told he would be. Roberto was hired by Pamela to take our luggage up to the villa. It was a steep climb up to the villa so not having the luggage to pull behind us was a huge blessing, Roberto also had room for me to sit up front with him so I got to ride and the rest of the family enjoyed the colorful walk up the hill.
Upon entering the villa, I was impressed with how roomy it was. Roberto opened up the shutters around the house and showed me how to secure them when we were away. I gleefully moved from room to room trying to take everything in at once. The views!! Spectacular is all I can say. There was a welcome note and wine in the refrigerator, which I opened and had with my dinner that night.
The must on our list was that were was internet and a clothes washer and dryer. We had just been in a place where the internet was spotty so it was a great relief that we had a strong signal here and Pamela was kind enough to provide a printer so we were able to print our plane tickets. In Europe most of the clothes dryers are the kind that you put out in the main area and drape your clothes over but this dryer was like the ones we have in the States and really dried the clothes, WOW!
There was air conditioning in every room but since the nights were cool we kept the windows open and listened to the ocean. The livingroom had a TV and video equipment but we never turned it on. The villa had a wonderful collection of books and my daughter found one she liked and would join me in the evenings reading. I spent my time outside in the garden sitting on a chair being romanced by Riomaggiore and the lovely sights and sounds in and around me.
The location of the villa is perfect, you can see the Riomaggiore coast line from the front window. Just a short walk down the hill to your left and you are in the middle of shops and restaurants. To your right you can see the hiking trails leading up an over the hill giving you even more spectacular views.
Pamela is a wonderful hostess and took into consideration everything a guest could want and made sure to communicate with us promptly when we would have a question or two, even before we arrived!
